Summer has come and gone! Fall is here and it certainly arrived with gusto!
Our triathlon was fantastic! Here are a few memories from the day we became endurance athletes :)
The day started before the sun came up. Mike's swim wave was the first into the water. It was nice because I got to see him transition onto his bike before I even had to warm up for the swim. Mike's swim went smoothly. Kelp, cold water and all. He swam with the collegiate athletes and didn't finish last! Mike's bike was a breeze. (Probably his favorite part of the race) At the run, he was still managing a smile. He crossed the finish line in under 3.5 hours!
My swim was good. I managed to talk during most of it (impressive I know :) ) The other swimmers around me were pretty nervous and my staff mode kicked in. I was incredibly happy to get to the bike and get out of the water. I started the bike strong and was keeping a pretty great pace till I decided to help someone change a flat tire. A little kink, but I got back on the bike and finished strong. The run was LONG. I was starving by my second lap (poor planning on my part) but my support system rocked! It was so nice to have both my parents there. Dad even ran with me a little ways :) The final lap of the run I decided I had had enough of the triathlon and kicked it up a notch. Sprinting, walking, sprinting, walking, sprinting to the finish :) Every picture my mom has of me I'm smiling then my finish line picture is me crying...go figure. The tears were of joy and of overwhelming emotion. The feeling of crossing the finish line is indescribable.
We are a little worse for the wear post race. Mike had a minor stress fracture in his foot, and my shoulder needs some TLC but in general we are MUCH healthier then pre race. We plan on doing a Tri soon and I'm planning on a half marathon in December.
Thank you to everyone! We could not have finished with out our support team, especially Mom and Dad! A HUGE thank you to all the donations! The money I raised will help cure cancer! I raced with pictures of my honorees (Uncle Chip, Grandpa John, and Juan Leonis) on my jersey and my good luck charm, Garfield. Garfield also raced with my Uncle Chip at Ironman.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

Where did the summer go?
Hi all!! Can you believe fall is almost here? Summer flew by...
It was a wonderfully busy summer filled with lots of weddings and fun with training for the triathlon. Mike and I have less than 3 weeks till we leave for Pacific Grove! We have been swimming, biking, and running lots. I have also been busy raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am still about $1000 away from a goal and need YOUR help :) Follow the link below to my fundraising website where you can donate!

We have traveled to many weddings this year, but have yet to go to a wedding together! We are looking forward to the last couple where we get to share a dance or two :) Congrats to all our newlywed friends! We are so happy for you all!
Mike's parents came and visited a couple of weeks ago. It was a great visit, full of sightseeing and good conversation. The Winnipeg folks fought pretty hard to get us to go University of Minnesota. The Reno folks are petitioning for schools closer to the west coast. Mike and I are also considering the east coast, Texas, or Toronto. Whichever school/location provides scholarships and a job for Mara wins!
We are looking forward to a few trips in the coming months. Monterey Bay (for the triathlon), Portland (Halloween and see all the Brosy relatives), Las Vegas (for a 1/2 marathon), and Winnipeg (for Christmas).
We miss those far away! Love you all!

Summer Begins!! Hurray!!
Hi all it's been a while since we've posted, and we thought we should updated y'all on the activities of the Reno Wiwchars.
We're still training hard for the triathlon, although Mike hasn't gotten in the pool yet. He'll get there though. Though we haven't been able to train together too much due to conflicting schedule, it's been nice to have a built-in support system. Mara's fundraising is going well. She's 25% there!!! We would definitely welcome your donations to support this great cause and the LLS mission: to cure blood cancers and provide better lives for patients and their families. Visit Mara's fundraising site below and see how she's doing!

The LSAT is done and out of the way, now we just need the score back (this Friday). It went pretty well, and Mike is hoping for an improvement over his first go-around. Then we'll need to narrow down our school selections and get started on applications, and Mara's job hunt! Here's a few cities we're looking into!
Victoria B.C.
Toronto ON
Minneapolis MN
Boulder CO
Austin TX
Montreal QC (if I get my French back...)
Philadelphia PA
Thoughts? Comments? We'd love to get some feedback from those closest to us if you have any good info on any of these cities.
Other than the general busyness of work, trying to get a Ph.D., swimming, biking and running, and raising a goofball of a dog, we're enjoying life as "newlyweds". It'll have been a year on Sunday!!! Holy crap! Wow, time flies when you're having fun, and in love. :)
For the Hosers, Mike will be in the Great White North in July (7th-20th) to participate in a few weddings and golf with his dad. After that, our next Canadian adventure will be at Christmas time, when we'll both be heading up to the tundra ( as Mara says :) ) Can't wait to see you all!
We love you all! Check back for our triathlon progress!

Swimming like a....fish outta water?
Swim practice on Tuesday was not something I was looking forward to. I have never been much of a swimmer. The fear of drowning and swimsuits kept me on land. Regardless, I showed up at the pool swim cap and goggles in hand ready for humiliation.
Much to my surprise, I wasn't half bad (thank you swim lessons at age 6). I have a good kick, my stroke needs some tweaking and I need to learn how to breathe in the water but all in all not bad (other than the breathing part).
Wohoo! I think if I work hard enough I can beat Mike's time in the swim :)

"Tri-ing" for a cure
Mike and I are signed up for a triathlon! I am doing it through TNT while MIke is just trianing on his own. Along with intense training I am also raising $3400!!! A lot of money but it all goes to a great cause-saving lives. If you can spare any change and help me out please go to my fundraising web site http://pages.teamintraining.org/sac/pactri09/mbrosywiwchar and donate!
The tri is Sept. 12 in PAc Grove. A beautiful location. We are starting to train hard and excercise and some competition are good for a marriage, right?
Mike already thinks he will beat my time soundly but I've got a few tricks up my sleeve and he may just be surprised. Check back to hear about our progress!!!!

Woot Woot!
So here it is, our first blog! We decided to write one so all of our friends and family everywhere can keep up with the Wiwchars! It's hard to believe that it's been almost 6 months since our wedding. The time has flown by and been filled with lots of love and laughter.
We adopted a puppy! His name is Coltrane and he is the greatest dog in the world. He is too smart for his own good though. He knows how to open all types of doors and also how to get treats from mom and dad. We are having lots of fun as a new family :)
Mike is studying hard for the LSAT's. He will take the test in Feb. Very exciting!
Mara is training for a marathon...yes a marathon. Coltrane is a good running partner for her. May 31st San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon here we come!!!
We are looking forward to the holidays and spending them together. It's our first Christmas as a family :) We can't wait to watch Holiday Inn on Christmas Eve together, opening our stockings in the morning, and being surrounded by loved ones.
We'll be in touch!
